Is Covid making a comeback? Maybe a little. Multiple states in India have reported a rise in positive Covid infections this month, and Bengaluru reported the first death of 2025 of a Covid positive patient. Notably, the man succumbed to multi organ failure due to pre-existing conditions, more on him in a bit.
According to the central COVID-19 dashboard, India currently has 1,009 active cases. Delhi alone has 104, with 99 of them recorded in the past week. Kerala remains the most affected state, reporting 430 cases. It is followed by Maharashtra with 209, and Delhi comes third.
States such as Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal have also seen new infections, reporting 83, 47, 15, and 12 active cases respectively. No active cases have been recorded in several regions including Assam, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The Ministry of Health says it is closely monitoring the situation. “Most of these cases are mild and under home care,” said an official source, as reported by ANI. The Union Health Secretary held a review meeting on Saturday.
In Maharashtra, 47 new cases were detected on Saturday alone, bringing the total number of active cases in the state to 166. Sadly, a 21-year-old man died after testing positive at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Thane. The hospital dean, Dr Aniruddh Malgaonkar, confirmed the patient had diabetic ketoacidosis and passed away on Saturday morning.
